On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Azad, October 15th has been declared as the vachan prerna diwas or the reading inspiration day by the government. Our college department of Library has celebrated birth anniversary of Late Honorable President Dr. A P J Kalam as Vachan Prerana Din.
To encourage the reading habits among the students of our college. The department of the library has decided to have book exhibition. So we have decided to display our own library collection on Dr. APJ and other noteworthy collections to create interest and inculcate the reading habit among our students. The librarian and the library staff have selected nearly 500 books covering the entire subject like History, Biography, Science and technology, Arts, General knowledge, Novels, Fictions, Film and media etc from Hindi, English and Marathi language. The selected books were arranged in the Library reading hall to display.
To create the interest of reading among the students by book exhibition was not sufficient to involve the students for reading, so we thought let make this event more interesting and competitive. The library has decided to have a competition for students “Read and Write” (Vaacha ani liha). So students can select a book from the exhibition and have to register his or her name for the event by reserving the title. The students can issue the book on 16th October, 2018, the students have to write about 1500 words on the book and submit the same to the librarian for the evaluation. The writing of the students will be evaluated by the language teachers of SR and JR College, the winners will be announce on 29th October, 2018 and will be given prizes accordingly.
The event was inaugurated at 11.00 am by our I/c Principal Dr. Lakshmi Varanasi cutting the ribbon fallowed by lighting of the lamp by Dr. Babasaheb Kadam, Director Academic and Administration.
Our I/c principal madam gave an inspirational talk about how reading helps the students to build their vocabulary, communication skills and thinking process which will help them to achieve success in academic, personality development and progress in all angles, to the students presented for the event. Madam requested the librarian to explain the rules and details of the competition.
Dr. Mahantesh Ajagond, librarian explained the students about the Read and Write event and appealed everyone to make best use of the event.
Near about 500 students from Degree, SFC and Junior college visited the library book exhibition. 58 students enrolled their name for the competition. The event completed at 5.00 pm.
The event was a successful because of the efforts took by the Library staff and support of the Principal, Director, teaching and non teaching staff and students.
The department of library thanks the Principal, Management and Director for the cooperation.
